Titania would be proud of you :)

WTF has happened to our country? I wish we could just have biological reality of sex, male or female, and forget all this "gender" and "assigned at birth" nonsense.

My employer asks us to record many personal details on their records, many of which make good sense. Interestingly they don't require us to record our sex or gender, just "gender identity", which as you have said, is not (well) defined. As they don't ask for sex or gender, I am not sure how they comply with legal requirements such as gender pay gap reporting. Obviously, I don't have a gender identity, so I had to choose the "prefer to self describe" option and write "none".

Considering how ignominiously her Commons career ended, Baroness Smith of Malvern probably can’t believe her luck at being in a government position. I met her when she was MP for Redditch (I assume it was about the same time she was making bogus expenses claims and her husband was using public money to buy porn videos), and I found her to be fairly down to earth. I’m sure she knows gender identity is claptrap, but she’s not in a position to say so because she’d lose her job. Those who gave her the job knew that when they did so.

Hi Andrew, excellent piece as always! Thanks for taking the time to set out the issue so clearly. f I could add my tuppence worth to the various "definitions" you cited it would be as follows. I worked in preparing legislation most of my career so I understand the fundamental importance of a definition to the nature, scope and purpose of a Bill/Act. Any person involved in drafting legislation knows that definitions must be as clear as possible on what is intended so that (i) those involved in implementing the Act, (ii) those affected by it and (iii) those who must make decisions on it are all collectively and consistently certain as to what words mean. If there is no clear definition of a key concept it is because (a) no one is really sure what it means or (b) they are sure but don't want to define it in case their definition is likely to be politically problematic or (c) they want judges to define in case law so that if the judges "get it wrong" (so to speak) the politicians can shrug their shoulders and blame the judiciary. As you know, we had a wonderful example of that recently in Ireland where "hate" is defined as "hate" -there you go, nothing could be simpler, Squire!!!!!!

Well said! This is also something that is not at all well understood. In law, definitions are foundational, and it is therefore essential for them to be as clear and precise as possible. Thank you for noting that.

Gender identity is imagination . Gender identity is fantasy. Gender identity is a narcissistic charade by which someone hopes to give themself (sic) a meaning. It is a fiction, a fabrication, a falsehood, a fallacy, and ultimately futile, forced on us by those who wish to weaken society, especially our children, to render us more susceptible to coercive control (that's the critical theory aspect).

Thanks for taking the trouble of putting all the "definitions" in one overview. They are indeed circular in reasoning and I'm still baffled people go along with this.

It's once again due to a lack of critical thinking (sorry to bring that up again, not sorry).

People think they know what "gender" means since it's often conflated with "sex". This gives a false feeling of familiarity and the activists surf on that familiarity. If we replace the word "gender" with "campsjaquino" people would struggle to understand what it meanss.

A campsjaquino person identifies with the campsjaquino of the opposite campsjaquino. What is "campsjaquino" you would ask? Well, it's what is assigned at birth. It's also inate and people know themselves very well and can work out their own campsjaquino.....and it's simultaneously fluid.

If you replace "gender" with a non-existent word you cannot work out what it could mean using the trans ideological method.

You must feel exhausted having to write about this garbage, but it needs to be said, so, well done.

Irrelevant but, my surname is actually Wellspring, and I get a little kick out of reading it 😄

Gender identity is a fiction ,as is " sex assigned at birth "!! Amazingly ,they still use that term ,in spite of all the prenatal scans , which identify the babies' sex long before they're born !! Thanks ,Andrewx

Great piece , Andrew.

Gender is gender is gender.....

In a recent Seanad debate in Ireland on the Hate Crime Bill, Senator Keoghan brilliantly showed up the nonsense of all this by reading out an enormous list of supposed ‘genders’ which went on for 25 minutes!!

Will cross post in due course.

I didn't really believe this, and then watched it on YouTube. I decided to then search Cloudgender (out of a seemingly inexhaustible list of choices)

"A neurogender in which one's gender cannot be fully comprehended or understood because of depersonalisation and/or derealisation."

I used to work in hospitality in my youth, and threw around the observation that 'everyone wants to feel special' due to constant requests like "can you get me one of those mints you give away" ... "I'm sorry, those are only available when you dine in the restaurant side, not here in the Cafe side".... but this adult woman demanded that I stop serving customers and run to the other side of the huge building to get her a mint. Requests like this were really constant.

I guess some types of people have always been this Narcissistic and find ever more ridiculous and creative ways to express this to everyone else.

What is most definitely is not, is inclusion.

Have a peaceful day Dusty, as much as is possible 😄

Thanks, Lola. Yes narcissism is central!

As Barry Wall says, gender identity is just personality!

The Senator also read out 'magpie gender'. I don't want to meet one of them but would be happy to meet two of them.😀

Yes, Magpie! And Horse 😅

Also Glitter Gender, Gender Gender, and, my personal favourite... Gender Lite! (Possibly light, but I heard lite and wondered if it was easy on the narcissism 😅)

Can't believe there's no Jesus Gender.

God help us!

I googled "what is gender identity" and second hit on the page was this from the NSPCC along with "How to close our website quickly. The 'Hide page' button at the bottom left of your screen will quickly take you to Google". This is what the NSPCC have to say:

Gender identity describes how a person feels about their gender.

For many people, their gender identity corresponds to the sex they were registered at birth. For others, it does not. Some people see gender identity as more of a spectrum, rather than a binary. There are many other expressions of gender identity, including non-binary and genderfluid, and for some people, the concept of gender isn't relevant to their identity.

Gender identity is a personal feeling, and a child or young person will be the best person to know what identifier matches how they feel. Children and young people can also question or feel unsure about their gender identity, or find that their gender identity changes over time.

I think I've got it. Gender identity is a deep ( deep, deep, deep...) internal feeling as to whether you prefer pink or blue. Bingo! Cracked it!
